OUR HISTORY:

Beginning in 1996, Warren Jackson felt a call upon his life to connect believers in a community/city-wide effort for a single purpose of worshipping God and celebrating unity. After much prayer and counsel, he connected with a group of men and women – college students and career professionals – with the same passion for unity among churches, denominations and their generation. In that moment the Awakening was born.

In the fall of 1997, a worship band, different Pastors, Youth Pastors, communicators began to meet each Thursday night at Willow Point Baptist Church with the vision set before them. The numbers fluctuated but the team was called by God and pursuing their calling wholeheartedly.

Several years later, the board adopted a plan to begin a Camp Ministry with the focus of “taking camps to kids who wouldn’t normally have the opportunity to go!” as well as develop college age students in their areas of ministry. There the Awakening Camp Ministry was born. In 2002, our first staff was assembled and six weeks of camps began. We saw over 1,000 students that summer and 136 accepted Christ as their personal Savior.
